Talented, organized, thoughtful, caring and kind, Karly is such a gift to our Live Oak staff and community. She is also very involved in the performing arts community as a director for youth theatre. An actress, singer, dancer and champion of others, Karly is a star! ⭐️

Her warmth and authenticity gives our Uptown community consistent & genuine hospitality and we love to share more about her with you today:

Where are you from?

Bay City! And now, just a town over in Essexville

What is your favorite Coffee Drink?

An iced latte with almond syrup, or a light roast coffee with cream 🙂

What do you LOVE about Midland or Bay City?

Growing up in Bay City, it’s been cool to watch both Downtown & Uptown blossom in the past few years! There are some marvelous local businesses growing & it’s where so many of my friends & family call home 💛

LO- awe, it is such a wonderful city and we love seeing the growth!

How do you hope to make Midland a better community?

When it comes to community, I think the most important element is being present & supportive of one another. When you hear about a concert or play or baseball game or art fair or whatever – go! You open yourself to so many more connections just by being in the moment & taking the time to appreciate of what/who is around you.

LO- agreed! You do this so well!

What is an embarrassing moment you can laugh at?

Ahhhhh I tell this story to about everyone who spills a drink at Live Oak to make them feel better !!! A few years ago I was at a coffee shop in Kalamazoo with a friend. It was a smaller shop & the tables were all pretty close together. We had just gotten our drinks & sat down next to a table of 3 nursing students. I am naturally a very ~theatrical~ person & I love to talk with my hands. Long story short – I’m monologuing about who knows what, my arm flails, & my super amazing, hot, sugary, 20oz, dark chocolate mocha splatters all over (& INTO) one of the students backpack’s/textbooks. It managed to miss the MacBook but still…. the shiver that moment brings me to this day. I immediately grabbed a million towels & all the cleaning supplies. After apologizing at least 50 times the baristas made me a new drink & let me out the back door before any tears or rage came out. Very embarrassing, 0/10, very funny exit.

LO- oh wow! What a story!

What is your favorite thing about Live Oak?

The people! Everyone puts this as their answer, but for good reason. I’ve worked with & met some some of the best humans ever at Live Oak <3

LO- like coffee, love people <3 they are the best part.

What is your favorite quote, saying or scripture?

“There is always light. If only we’re brave enough to see it. If only we’re brave enough to be it.” – Amanda Gorman

What do you do for fun?

I stay pretty involved in theatre around the area. I love to act, sing, & dance! I also love taking roadtrips with my friends, & hanging out with my dog.

What are you passionate about & what are some of your dreams?

I am super passionate about the performing arts! Right now, I wear lots of different hats, being a barista & directing some youth theatre at a local middle & high school. I love collaborating with other artists, & the whole process that comes with telling a story on stage. My dream is to continue to make art with people I love!

LO- We love watching you advocate for and champion young people as they lean into their talents. You are an excellent leader!

What is your favorite Charity and why?

My favorite charity right now is the restoration & preservation of The Historic Masonic Temple in Bay City. This past fall I got the opportunity to perform a show there in the gorgeous blue room, while also getting to know the quirks & charm of what is just a breathtaking building. The building has been around forever it seems, though hasn’t had a consistent purpose until recently. It is now home to a local theatre group that produces shows & art for our community. The restoration & preservation means more artists for generations to come will have a space at The Masonic to create & perform!

LO- Very cool! We love buildings rich in character and history!

Karly, thank you for being a part of our Live Oak family. We love learning more about you and your heart and can’t wait to watch how you will continue to impact this community with your passion and hard work. Love, your LO fam
