Kristen Satkowiak

Bay City, Michigan

What is your favorite Coffee Drink?

Cold Brew

What do you LOVE about Midland or Bay City?

The customers and staff are a family. I genuinely look forward to coming to work every day because I am surrounded by people that constantly lift me up.

How do you hope to make Midland a better community?

Times are trying right now and I want to be able to bring a small piece of joy into my customers’ days. Whether it is a smile (through my eyes, because you know, masks) or listening to them when they have something to get off their chest, I want to be there to give them what they need for the day.

LO- you do this so well!! You light up a room!

What is an embarrassing moment you can laugh at?

My first week of training at Live Oak I was doing the dishes when I accidentally splashed sanitizer water into my eye. I was embarrassed and did not want to make a big deal about it since I didn’t know everyone yet so I just went to the bathroom and washed it out without telling anyone. To this day I think I have only told Meg. It is so funny because I am SO much more comfortable with everyone now that way more embarrassing things have happened to date, but I am no longer embarrassed by anything because we all just laugh with each other.

LO- laughter is so important, we love laughing with you!

What is your favorite thing about Live Oak?

My favorite thing about Live Oak is that I can be exactly who I want to be, and who I am supposed to be. I have a constant support system who want me to succeed in all of my goals and be the best version of myself that I can be.

LO- We LOVE you and think you are incredible! Your positivity brings the whole atmosphere up. You are a gift!

What do you do for fun?

My favorite thing to do is travel. Whether locally or internationally, I love seeing new sights, meeting new people and experiencing new cultures, and it is a bonus when I get to travel with the people I love! I am also super passionate about music and LOVE concerts. I would go to one every day if I had the chance.

What are you passionate about & what are some of your dreams?

Three of my largest passions are traveling, positivity, and building relationships. You can learn a lot about yourself, others, and the world when you are able to travel. There is too much of this world for me not to see as much as I possibly can. I consider myself an incredibly positive person. I am always the friend trying to see the bright side of any situation and firmly believe that every day can be a little bit better if you’re able to find a reason to smile. Building relationships is my number one passion. The people in my life are extremely important to me. Personally or professionally, the people you choose to surround yourself with form you into the person that you are, and I take pride in the relationships I have made and look forward to the ones that are yet to come. Career dreams- I am pursuing corporate event management. My dream job at the moment would be working for the United States Olympic Committee planning the summer and winter games. I have always been fascinated by the Olympics and this job would allow me to do what I love (planning) while also traveling and promoting a healthy lifestyle. Personal dreams- Most of my personal dreams revolve around traveling. I have a goal of visiting all 50 States, as well as visiting every continent. My biggest dream in life is to be as happy as possible, and I think I am working in the right direction.

LO- we love how upbeat you are and your sense of adventure!

What is your favorite Charity and why?

Can I do my favorite organization? Because I am really involved in Alternative Breaks at school and I would love to highlight it 🙂 Alternative Breaks is a student run program through the Volunteer Center at Central Michigan University where students are able to sign up for weeklong service and learning trips throughout the United States. Students sign up for the breaks based on social justice issues they are passionate about and then get placed on a break with 10 other students and 2 student site leaders to travel to a new community and serve for a week over winter, spring and summer breaks. I have been involved with the Alternative Break program since my freshman year at Central and it holds the nearest and dearest memories to my time at school. I have been a participant, site leader, and this year I am on executive board planning the trips and training the site leaders. My favorite break that I have been on this far was actually my first break, Natural Disaster Restoration in New Orleans, Louisiana where we were renovating homes devastated by Hurricane Katrina 15 years prior.

LO- very cool!
